Based in Casselberry, FL, Sandi Vidal leads a team to help put food on the table and provide job counseling and other services for their neighbors who need the help. (click to see video clip here)

Christian HELP
  • The national unemployment rate is currently 8.8%, the lowest it has been since March 2009; however, Florida still lingers behind
  • Florida, currently, holds the 3rd worst unemployment rate in the country at 11.5%
  • In the past month, approximately 23,000 jobs were added in the customer service and hospitality industry
  • Recent job reports reveal the average unemployment time period increased in March to 39 weeks
  • Laid off workers under the age of 34 have a 36% chance of finding a new job within a year; in their 50’s, it’s only 24%, and past 62,
    just 18%.
  • Christian HELP holds job fairs in Orlando every two months. During the most recent job fair, over 2,000 job seekers showed up in search
  • of employment
  • Despite improving job data, older unemployed workers are having more trouble finding work, as companies favor less-experienced,
  • cheaper candidates. Tracy Smith looks into what it takes to find a job for an unemployed baby boomer
  • Statistically, persons 50 and older are less likely to be laid off…
  • In joint study from Boston College and Rutgers, researchers discovered that a growing number of people over 50 are involuntarily working
  • part time jobs or just quit looking for jobs         more about this on cbsnews.com
March 16, 2011 -
In March and April your help has an even bigger impact through doubling.

Many have asked how Christian HELP is responding to the situation with the homeless children. The answer is we are continuing to help their parents find jobs. The truth is this is not a new situation.

We have seen it happening for the past few years and continue to do all we can to keep families in their homes and food on tables. We saw over 13,000 cases last year and helped over 11,000 families with food.

Over 6,000 were placed as a result of all of our services including job fairs. We have reached out to Casselberry elementary school to let them know we are here to help.    Read more about the needs in the Orlando Sentinel.

Thank you and God Bless-

Sandi Vidal
Executive Director

A friend at church told Valentino about Christian Help, but at first she resisted. She was used to handing out toothbrushes, not asking for them. "I've never been the type that likes to ask for help," she said. "So it was hard for me."
But Christmas was nearing. She thought of Michael.

A Cycle of Giving
(..)“Prayer is a powerful tool. I don’t believe it will magically get someone a job, but I have seen some amazing things happen through prayer,” Vidal says. As part of a unique ministry like Christian HELP, Vidal happily gives the community her human resources expertise and, when asked for, her spiritual support.
(..) With a degree and 15 years experience in the human resources field, Vidal was thrilled she found a way to use her talents to help her fellow Central Floridians. After serving on the board of directors for four years, the executive director position opened up at Christian HELP and she was encouraged to apply by the organization’s co-founder Dick Wilson. Now in the position for three and a half years, Vidal says she feels so blessed. ...read more

Change the World - Christmas giving in October, part II
(-) And this week Christian HELP of Casselberry is reaching out to the community to help kick off its holiday campaign. The charity’s mission is to help people find jobs while providing for them materially and spiritually, and each Christmas it gives out new toys for children whose parents are unemployed and underemployed. This year it expects to help well over 1,200 kids. Christian HELP is asking for both toys for little ones and presents for teens — the latter being the biggest need – as well as canned goods for Christmas food baskets. Finding Faith ... and Work

With unemployment at record highs, churches and Christian organizations are stepping in to help job seekers both practically and spiritually. Ministries such as Florida-based Christian HELP and Career Solutions in Dallas began helping the unemployed find work long before the recession hit in 2008.     read more (pdf)

Morning Job Ministry
The business of looking for a job is a job itself, says Windermere resident Frank Masi to a roomful of 40 job seekers one January Saturday morning at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Dr. Phillips.

St. Luke’s began its job ministry in early 2009. Pastor David Stephens, saw that people were struggling and asked me to take the lead, Masi says.

St. Luke’s is the largest Methodist church in Florida. Their ongoing ministries include everything from counseling to youth ministry to feeding and housing the homeless. Pastor Stephens has been with the church for 23 years. Frank was the key because he’s a recruiter, but we had 10 people on the job ministry committee and they all helped, Stephens says.

Christian HELP and CFEC held their third free employment seminar for job seekers in Central Florida.
We are calling these events "Re-Charge and Re-Energize your Job Search". Our media sponsor, WESH 2, had their talent Gail http://www.christianhelp.org/images/es020410/8.jpgPaschall Brown gives a dynamic opening. Attendees were engaged, taking notes, grateful, & encouraged. Here is just one of the many comments we received afterwards: "I just wanted to let you know that I am so happy I attended the Job Seminar, I learned a lot and got a lot of useful information and help from all of you. I have been out of work for quite some time now and had never heard of these Seminars (thank God for my Pastor). Tonight I am excited and encouraged about my job search. Thanks again and have a blessed night." We believe God is calling us to continue presenting these events as another way to outreach into the community and help Central Florida's Job Seekers.
